Budget Discussion
The Trustees present expressed that their budget review had not generated any questions. Supervisor Barnes will be away for the next meeting on March 27 and therefore suggested that the Budget Hearing and Approval be delayed until the April 24 Regular Meeting.
Land Acquisition
Supervisor Barnes announced that in lieu of an Executive Session she would advise the Board about the inspections that have taken place on the property at 3500 Western. There have been two inspections, and the two inspectors are going to get together and present to the Township what costs will be involved in bringing the building up to code. Assuming reasonable costs for the latter, the Township would then negotiate a purchase price with the seller, conditional upon securing a zoning change and approval by Township residents to purchase the building. Such approval would be done via Special Meeting, published 30 days prior to the meeting.
Assessor’s Report
Chief Deputy Assessor Trish Lenzini reported on the full-page story in today’s Pioneer Press about property tax assessments in Moraine Township which are expected to be up 3% in 2008. Home sales prices are holding fairly steady even though the volume of sales is down. Across the County there is as much of a 23% reduction in home sales.
Supervisor’s Report
Small Emergency Planning training to be held on April 10 at 4:00 PM. Supervisor Barnes will confirm the location to all trustees and other applicable individuals attending the training.
Committee Reports
Food Pantry – Trustee Moreno reported that the Pantry shelves are greatly depleted; we will continue to order from the Food Bank as necessary. The Postal Food Drive on May 10 is expected to result in a bountiful restocking.
Clothes Closet – Salvation Army is coming to take items that are not usable, after which the Township will again accept clothing donations.
Grant Committee – Trustee Gamson reported on a request received from Bethany Church for $6,000 to cover capital cost of furnishings needed to start up an Infant Care program. If the committee recommends granting Bethany’s request in full, the total dollars requested from all grants will exceed the allotted $100,000 by $3,000. Consensus of the Board is for the committee to recommend whatever they feel most prudent, even if slightly over the allotment.
