The meeting was called to order at 5:11 PM by Supervisor Barnes and upon roll call the following members were present: Trustees Dwayne Douglas, Bryna Gamson, and Jackie Schechter. Trustee Margoth Moreno and Assessor Peter Koukos were absent. Also Present: Clerk Ellen Gussin.

Approval of Minutes
The Regular Meeting Minutes of May 28, 2009 stand approved as written.

Approval of Bills
The Board questioned the Assessor’s Office charge for coffee service on the Bills to be approved, wanting to know the period of time represented for the $102 invoice on May 29. Supervisor Barnes will speak to Assessor Koukos and get back to the Board at the next meeting. Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Schechter, approval of the bills. Upon roll call, motion carried.

Public Comment

Code of Ethics
Supervisor Barnes and Trustee Douglas discussed the fact that the Model Ethics Ordinance provided to the Board for review provides for procedures not required by the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. Supervisor Barnes will discuss this issue with the new Township attorney and report back to the Board shortly.

Assessor’s Report

Supervisor’s Report
4th of July Parade is coming up in several weeks; Supervisor Barnes invites the community to walk with the Township and will invite the participation of Pantry Plants, Latino Advisory Committee and the Grant Advisory Committee volunteers.

Supervisor Barnes is investigating whether anything can be done to stop the repeated flooding in one section of the Mooney Cemetery.

Chipotle Mexican Grill in Renaissance Plaza has offered to donate food to the Food Pantry; Supervisor Barnes is reviewing the required forms and addressing concerns about how to keep the food fresh throughout storage and distribution.

Supervisor Barnes met with the Highwood Police Department and Fire Department Chiefs as well as city officials from Highwood regarding the Small Emergencies Plan. She suggested Highwood consider presenting a program similar to the program on Gangs presented at the Highland Park Police Station several weeks ago to governmental leaders; she also suggested reaching out to the Latino community with such a program.

Committee Reports
The Pantry Plants Garden Project was planted last Saturday. The goal is to tend the garden all summer to provide healthy plants at harvest time for the Pantry patrons. Trustee Schechter is working on getting a plot of land in Highwood for the same purpose.

Food Pantry – There are still items to be stocked.

New Business
Clerk Gussin attended a training session for Lake County Clerks this week where changes to the Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act were presented. A summary of the highlights are attached to the Minutes.

With no further business to conduct, Trustee Gamson moved, seconded by Trustee Schechter, the meeting be adjourned at 6:20 PM. Motion carried.
