MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING

June 25, 2015, 7:00 PM

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., and upon roll call the following members were present: Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi, Trustees Olga Gomez Aguilar, Dwayne Douglas, and Cindy Wolfson; Absent: Trustee Amy Zisook. Also Present: Clerk Gail Feiger Brown, Kathryn Vanden Berk (videographer), Jayla Marcus, Shari Marcus and Cindy Guerrero.

Public Comment
There was no comment from the public.

Volunteer Recognition of Jayla Marcus, Shari Marcus and Cindy Guerrero
Jayla Marcus, Shari Marcus and Cindy Guerrero were thanked for their efforts in holding a bake sale at the Township office to benefit the Food Pantry. Almost $1,300 was raised. An additional $174.44 was presented to the Township at the Board meeting.

Approval of Minutes
Trustee Aguilar moved, seconded by Trustee Douglas, approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of June 11, 2015. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.

Approval of Bills
Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Wolfson, Approval of the Bills, June 1-15, 2015: $31,794.79 Town Fund, $8,258.63 General Assistance. Voting Aye by Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Aguilar, Douglas and Wolfson; Voting Nay: none.

  • None.

  • Supervisor's Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • Supervisor Bassi has applied to the Liberty Prairie Foundation for a grant for the Pantry Plants Garden.
    • On June 25, Supervisor Bassi and General Assistance Manager Paula Peddle attended a meeting at the Highland Park Police Station with other local government staff to share information pertaining to emergency planning.
    • Thanks to videographer Kathryn Vanden Berk.


  • Latino Advisory Committee Report
  • The Latino Advisory Committee held a pot luck dinner at its June 25 meeting. Discussion centered on housing issues. Participants included Alicia De La Cruz from Open Communities and Kathryn Vanden Berk from the Highland Park/Highwood Legal Aid Clinic.

  • Food Insecurity Issues Report Gail Feiger Brown
  • As of June 25, 177 families have enrolled in the program to receive almost 225 summer school vacation breakfast/lunch bags. Bags include a combination of shelf stable and perishable food. Families are able to access produce and dairy at our Food Pantry.

  • Food Pantry Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
  • From April, 2014 to April, 2015, Heinen's market donated over $14,000 worth of food to the Food Pantry. Thanks to Heinen's and other supermarkets for supplementing Township food, and thanks to 30 volunteers who pick-up and sort donations, and purchase additional produce. Thanks to Ravinia Farmers Market vendors for donating produce weekly throughout the summer.

  • Pantry Plants Garden Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
  • The Garden is starting to harvest radishes and early lettuce. Thanks to North Shore Congregation Israel for donating arugula, spinach, lettuce, oregano and radishes.

  • Senior Services Task Force Report
  • None.

  • Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC) Cindy Wolfson
  • Trustee Wolfson attended the June 17 LCCTSC meeting. Goals for 2015 were discussed, including a LCCTSC roadshow for townships, featuring an overview of transportation in the County, and interaction with stakeholders.
    July 26 marks the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
    LCCTSC would like an update on collaboration with West Deerfield Township.

With no further business to conduct, Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Aguilar, the meeting be adjourned at 7:17 p.m. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
