Moraine Township

The meeting was called to order at 7:08 p.m., and upon roll call the following members were present: Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi, Trustees Dwayne Douglas, Cindy Wolfson and Amy Zisook; Absent: Trustee Olga Gomez Aguilar. Also Present: Clerk Gail Feiger Brown.

Public Comment
There was no comment from the public.

Approval of Minutes
Trustee Zisook moved, seconded by Trustee Wolfson, approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of May 14, 2015. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.

Approval of Bills
Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Wolfson, Approval of the Bills, May 1-15, 2015: $50,538.60 Town Fund, $7,754.37 General Assistance. Voting Aye by Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Douglas, Wolfson and Zisook; Voting Nay: none.


  • Assessor's Report
  • None.
    Reminder: The first installment of property taxes is due June 6.

  • Supervisor's Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • Thanks to Jayla Marcus, Shari Marcus and Cindy Guerrero for raising and donating $1,325 from their bake sale held at the Township on May 16. They will be recognized at the June 25 Board Meeting.
    • District 113 Superintendent George Fornero sent a letter to Supervisor Bassi thanking Moraine Township for addressing food insecurity in our community.
    • Supervisor Bassi distributed to Trustees and the Clerk an inquiry from the Township auditors whether they had any questions about Township activities. Trustees and Clerk were to respond directly to the auditors.
    • The Pantry Plants Garden fence has been installed. Planting day is May 30, from 9 a.m. to noon.

  • Latino Advisory Committee Report Dwayne Douglas
  • Trustee Aguilar was present at the Committee Meeting.
    Esteban Carbajal, a representative from HACES, spoke to the committee about his weekly assistance with immigration matters at Highland Park/Highwood Legal Aid Clinic.
    There was discussion of Moraine Township's pilot program to address food insecurity during summer vacation when students are not fed at school.
    The next Committee meeting is scheduled for June 25.

  • Food Insecurity Issues Report Amy Zisook
  • Trustee Zisook discussed the pilot school vacation program. Families can pick up bags of food five times over the summer, or once every two weeks. Parents of 1500 North Shore District 112 and Highland Park High School students received applications mailed by the schools to participate in the program. Thanks to the school districts for partnering with the Township.

  • Food Pantry Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
  • Thanks to the North Shore School District 112 PTO Presidents Council for holding food drives at all schools to help stock the Food Pantry over the summer months.
    Thanks to the sophomore class at Highland Park High School for holding a food drive.
    Thanks to Lakeside Congregation for holding a food drive to collect cereal for the vacation food bag pilot program.
    Thanks to Zach Feigenholz who collected food for the Food Pantry in lieu of gifts for his Bar Mitzvah.
    Thanks to eight year-old Avery Pawczuk who collected food instead of gifts for her birthday party.

  • Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC)
  • None.

  • Community Family Center (CFC) Report Gail Feiger Brown
  • Clerk Brown attended the CFC Board Meeting on May 18. The project on the Karger site is moving forward. CFC will sign an MOU with the City of Highland Park and the Park District of Highland Park for the project. CFC will hire the Alfred Group to conduct a fundraising feasibility study.

  • Human Relations Commission Report Gail Feiger Brown
  • Clerk Brown attended the HRC meeting on May 21. Purchase of Service Grants and planning for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Services were discussed.

With no further business to conduct, Trustee Douglas seconded by Trustee Zisook, the meeting be adjourned at 7:20 p.m. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
