The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., and upon roll call the following members were present: Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi, Trustees Olga Gomez Aguilar, Dwayne Douglas, Cindy Wolfson and Amy Zisook. Also present: Clerk Gail Feiger Brown and Videographer Clyde Jennings.

Public Comment
There was no comment from the public.

Approval of Minutes
Trustee Aguilar moved, seconded by Trustee Zisook, approval of the Regular Meeting Minutes of May 12, 2016. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.

Approval of Bills
Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Wolfson, Approval of the Bills, May 10-May 19, 2016: $6,437.06 General Assistance, $35,602.98 Town Fund. Voting Aye by Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Aguilar, Douglas, Wolfson and Zisook; Voting Nay: none.

Adoption of Prevailing Wage Ordinance
Trustee Wolfson moved, seconded by Trustee Zisook, Adoption of the Prevailing Wage Ordinance. Voting Aye by Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Aguilar, Douglas, Wolfson and Zisook; Voting Nay: none.

  • Supervisor's Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • Surveys have been e-mailed to residents who received assistance through the VITA program. Responses are coming in and have been uniformly positive, many praising the professionalism of the office and volunteers.
    • The Township is in the process of hiring a van driver.
    • Supervisor Bassi received a thank you note for Board get well wishes from Janet Freed, who regularly attends Township Board Meetings and who recently had surgery.
    • Supervisor Bassi and staff are assembling a timeline and binder for reporting compliance.
    • Thanks to staff Paula Peddle, who was recognized by Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) for her efforts in obtaining a CPAH rental apartment for a Township client.
    • Thank you to Videographer Clyde Jennings.
    • The Township office will be closed on Monday, May 30 in observance of Memorial Day.

  • Food Insecurity Issues Report Amy Zisook
    • Thank you to the Baha'i community for a $2,000 donation to the Food Pantry; several of their members are regular volunteers of the Food Pantry.
    • The monthly backpack program at a North Shore District 112 school concluded today. Donors have expressed an interest in continuing the program next year.
    • The Township will be proving breakfast and snack food for 60 Highland Park High School students in the TPI program in summer school.
    • Thank you to North Shore School District 112 and Highland Park High School for mailing hundreds of invitations to income-qualified families for the summer breakfast/lunch bag program.

  • Food Pantry Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • Thank you to mail carriers and and many volunteers for assisting with the May 14 Postal Carriers' Food Drive. Donations were low; some residents did not get reminder postcard from their mail carriers.
    • Supervisor Bassi is scheduling volunteers for the Ravinia Festival season-long food drive which will be held on Saturdays from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Ticket holders will receive reminders and shopping lists on Thursdays prior to the concerts. 3-4 volunteers per concert will receive complimentary tickets from Ravinia and parking for two cars to load the food. A food drive will also be held in conjunction with the District 112 Foundation at Ravinia on the July 26 Kids Go Classic concert.
    • Supervisor Bassi is working with the Park District of Highland Park to hold a food drive this summer.

  • The garden was planted on May 21.

  • No report.

  • Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC) Amy Zisook
  • The RTA has a call for special projects; the Township is not eligible to apply.

  • No report.

  • Human Relations Commission Report
  • No report.

  • Cemetery Report Cindy Wolfson
    • Trustee Wolfson is interviewing vendors to provide headstone restoration at Mooney and Daggitt Cemeteries.
    • Thank you to Larry Sassarossi, Lawrence Pasquesi, and American Legion Post 145 for placing flags on graves of veterans at Mooney and Daggitt Cemeteries for Memorial Day.

Executive Session
Trustee Zisook moved, seconded by Trustee Douglas, to enter into Executive Session pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)11 to discuss pending or threatened litigation. Voting Aye By Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Aguilar, Douglas, Wolfson and Zisook; Voting Nay: none.

Executive Session was entered into at 7:23 p.m. Executive Session was adjourned at 7:30 p.m.

The Board Meeting resumed at 7:30 p.m.

With no further business to conduct, Trustee Wolfson moved, seconded by Trustee Douglas, that the meeting be adjourned at 7:31 p.m. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
