Assessor's Report
Chief Deputy Assessor Trish Lenzini reported on the college students that are on the job for the summer and doing well. Property tax bills have all been received, and Assessor’s Office wants to encourage citizens that are 65 and older to apply for the Senior Homestead exemption, Senior Assessment Freeze and other exemptions, as entitled. More information is available at www.morainetownship.org. A door-hanger, leave-behind card has been used recently with good success for home visits where the owners are not at home.

Prevailing Wage Ordinance
Clerk Gussin explained that the ordinance passed last year is still accurate and there is no need to change at this time.

Supervisor's Report
•    Supervisor Barnes thanked those that came to Volunteer Day on May 13 to plant the garden as well as helping with the Postal Drive later that afternoon.
•    This week has been spent with the accountant getting ready for the annual audit.
•    The Employee Manual has been distributed to the Board of Trustees. Supervisor Barnes suggests one change, as recommended by our accountant in Section 3.5, p. 8: adding the word “New” to the beginning of the second paragraph and change “monthly” to “annual” at end of the same sentence. Trustee Plouché moved, seconded by Trustee Moreno, approval of the Employee Manual. Upon roll call, motion carried. Manual will be effective June 1, 2006.

Committee Reports
1.   Grant Proposal – Trustee Gamson sent suggested changes to the Board. The final approval will be made at the June 22 meeting.
2.   Food Pantry – Trustee Moreno commented that we need more shelves for food storage and asked that we consider where we might be able to place. Supervisor Barnes suggested as an alternative to purchasing new shelves that the food can be filtered in to the existing shelves efficiently, making sure that the oldest goods are bagged for clients with immediate needs. Some of the clothing and shoes have been moved to facilitate additional room for the food. Trustee Moreno stated that she has some school-age children that will be volunteering several days per week once school ends.

Old Business
None

New Business
•   Supervisor Barnes stated that she will be out of town on June 8 and therefore our next meeting will be June 22 in Highwood at 7:30 PM. She also announced that pictures from her remarks to the Ravinia Neighbors Association, the Postal Drive on May 13, and the planting of the Pantry Plants Garden Project on the morning of May 13 will be televised immediately following this meeting, when it is aired for public viewing.
•   Supervisor Barnes announced that she has asked the landscapers to make sure the township cemeteries will be in tip-top shape for Memorial Day. Assessor Koukos announced that he is going to be putting up flags at veterans’ graves.

Adjournment
With no further business to conduct, Supervisor Barnes moved, seconded by Trustee Moreno, the meeting be adjourned at 8:09 PM.  Motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,
