HELP WINTERIZE MORAINE PANTRY PLANTS GARDEN
SATURDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 17
On Saturday October 17, from 9AM to 1PM, the Moraine Township Pantry Plants Garden Project will be put to bed for the winter. Many hands are needed to help with the process of fixing the fences, cleaning out the plant materials, and spreading mulch to improve soil quality for next year. The Pantry Plants Garden Project is located at the south end of Barberry Road in Highland Park, in land generously made available for this use in the Highland Park Park District's Woodridge Park.
The Moraine Township Pantry Plants Garden Project had a great season thanks to the efforts of all the volunteers. Fresh produce in record amounts was grown for and appreciated by Township Food Pantry clients.
"Lead Gardener Fern Anderson and Sam Piro of U CANN2, and their legions of helpers put in countless hours and deserve our sincere thanks," said Moraine Township Supervisor Mari Barnes. "They've also secured the donation of mulch for the site, for which we're very grateful, from Rosborough Partners Landscaping."
Said Anderson: "We have had some fun, made some new friends and grew some great vegetables for the Food Pantry. Now let's end the season by preparing for next year."
"We will start at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 17 and although there is much to be done, we will finish by 1:00 PM. Please mark your calendars, bring some tools and gloves, come out and help," added Piro.
