On April 19: "Selling Yourself In An Electronic Job Market:
A View From Inside LinkedIn"
LinkedIn Vice President Mike Gamson will be the featured speaker at a free "brown bag lunch" event presented by Moraine Township as a public service to residents on Monday, April 19 from noon to 1:30pm in the auditorium of the Highland Park Public Library. His topic is "Selling Yourself In An Electronic Job Market: A View From Inside LinkedIn." Check in starts at 11:45am. Participants bring their own lunch; Moraine Township will provide beverages and dessert. Priority registration will go to residents of Moraine Township and Highland Park. Residents wishing to attend must pre-register by calling the Township at 847-432-3240.
A native of Highland Park, presenter Mike Gamson leads LinkedIn’s Global Hiring Solutions business. His group brings thousands of worldwide corporate Human Resource teams to LinkedIn’s network of 60,000,000 members – to advertise their jobs and to search through professional profiles for candidates that best fill requirements of a specific position.
Gamson will provide insight into how HR recruiters use LinkedIn’s technology. Attendees will get tips on how to appropriately adjust online profiles to achieve greater notice, and success in a job search. Q & A will follow, including representatives of local government and nonprofit career counseling resource advisors.
Resource providers on site will include event partners: Jan Cline Leahy, Executive Director of Career Resource Center; Dr. Iris Seeley, career counselor from College of Lake County's Career & Placement Services; and Dr. Terri Berryman, Director of the Job Center of Lake County/Workforce Development Department. Highland Park Public Library is hosting the event.
Moraine Township is responding to expressed resident interest in improving job search skills to gain a marketing edge in this tough economy. In addition to producing this free talk on LinkedIn, the Township aims to make residents aware of locally-available public and nonprofit resources from entities partnering in the program. Lake Forest-based Career Resource Center (which has received Township grant support for several years) offers comprehensive re-employment services; College of Lake County Career & Placement Services individual career counseling for Lake County residents is offered free by appointment at the Grayslake, Vernon Hills, and Waukegan campuses as well as other locations including the Highland Park Library; and the Job Center of Lake County provides technical help for job seekers at two sites, in Waukegan and Grayslake.
Featured speaker Mike Gamson was raised in Highland Park; he graduated from Wayne Thomas Elementary, Northwood Junior and Highland Park High schools as well as Amherst College. He is the son of Moraine Township Trustee Bryna Gamson and Edward Gamson.
