MAKING CONNECTIONS WITH RESOURCE PROVIDERS"

HIGHWOOD, Illinois – State Senator Susan Garrett (D-Lake Forest) together with Moraine Township, Shields Township, and West Deerfield Township; Lake County Partners; and Sunset Foods will be hosting a free resource fair, "Options and Opportunities: Making Connections With Resource Providers," on Monday, November 15 from 1:00 to 4:00PM at the Highland Park Country Club. Human services providers and the public are welcome to attend and learn more about one another's needs and programs already in place to address those needs.
Senator Garrett noticed that inquiries to her office for information about human services resources have been increasing. Even in the best of times, life cycle changes confront people, necessitating a search for resources they ordinarily have not needed in the past. No one agency or government entity has all the answers to every human need, but many are available. The key is knowing which group to call upon.
Senator Garrett took action by working with local townships and agencies to hold a resource fair in which they can showcase their programs, benefitting interested members of the public as well as discovering complementarity and opportunities for collaboration.
Issues ranging from caregiving aging parents to job re-entry, employment counseling and financial counseling, healthcare needs, emergency and general assistance options, housing and utility bills, even education – a host of real-life needs, particularly in the present stressed economy – are of concern to residents. Various organizations have programs in place to help. United Way directories and their website FindHelpLakeCounty.org are examples of resources people should become aware of. Township offices should be a first stop for those seeking a guide through the tangled jungle of options. This resource fair is another way into the system, raising public awareness of options and opportunities.
"We hope that people will leave this event feeling as though they made connections that will help them now and in the future," said Garrett. "I expect that my staff and I will make new connections as well, and so do the various agencies we've enlisted for the resource fair."
