Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day January 20, 2014 Help Restock Moraine Township's Food Pantry Shelves

Moraine Township is joining other community organizations at the Highland Park Rec Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2014 for a day of service to commemorate Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s legacy.

Help sort and transport food from 10 to 2, or pull up at the door to drop food off with our volunteers between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

"Join with your neighbors and members of the Highland Park High School Baseball Team, and participate in a real-life learning experience about helping others in our own community," urges Moraine Township Trustee Amy Zisook. "A day off from school does not have to mean a day off from learning."

If you can't help on January 20, please remember that residents who would like to help the Township in this effort are welcome to bring contributions of unexpired, non-perishable food to our office at 777 Central Avenue, Highland Park weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

When community members visit our pantry, in addition to bags of dried food and canned goods, we also provide frozen meat. Fresh produce is offered when available. Residents who need to use our Food Pantry are encouraged to call 847-432-3240 to learn about regular pantry hours, or to make an appointment for other times.

Most In-Demand Items: (no glass, please!) canned fruit, canned tuna or chicken, peanut butter, soup/chili, pasta sauce, saltine crackers, toilet paper, laundry detergent.

Other Items Needed: canned vegetables, dried beans, cereal & oatmeal, flour and cornmeal, vegetable or corn oil, refried beans, sugar, coffee and tea, juice, canned milk, jellies and jams, rice (not instant), foil, personal hygiene products, soap, diapers, shampoo.
