Gift Drive for Kids Exceeds Its Goal

As we leap into 2008, I want to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the Phyllis Santullano Holiday Gift Drive, run for the first time by Moraine Township. We took over the Drive after many wonderful years of stewardship under community volunteers and District 112 and 113 staff, who continued to be invaluable this year.

Township staff and Board of Trustee members, students from the high school, North Shore Academy and a few special local residents spent two days taking in and distributing all of the goodies. Trinity Church graciously allowed us to use a room to distribute the gifts and seniors knit caps for the kids which added to the holiday spirit. Many recipients came with a thank you note and others signed our great big thank you board at the church (now on display at our office), so all of the donors should know that their effort was appreciated.

With the help of Willow Creek Church, we provided food baskets along with the gifts. The Township also received toys from the City of Highland Park Employee Christmas party, JCYS Lutz Center and cash donations (always appreciated) from residents.

Our intention was that every child had something from Santa at holiday time and with the generosity displayed throughout the community, we not only reached but exceeded our goal.
