FEED THE METERS, FEED YOUR NEIGHBORS
The change collected at the two new "parking" meters installed in downtown Highland Park will lead to positive change in the community's fight against food insecurity. Spearheaded by Namrita Narula, a sophomore at Highland Park High School, all funds collected from the donation station meters will be used to purchase fresh produce for the Moraine Township Food Pantry.
"Food insecurity is a reality in our community," noted Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering, "and we were thrilled when Namrita came to the City Council with the request to have the collection sculptures in downtown to provide additional funding for the Food Pantry."
"We are inspired by the compassion and dedication of this young woman to help our neighbors going through difficult times," commented Moraine Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.Click to read more.
Pantry Plants Garden Project
In the Spring to Fall growing season, the Township has a "Pantry Plants Garden Project." Families are encouraged to join together in this project to provide fresh food to supplement the Food Pantry. Volunteers work the soil, plant donated plants, weed and till, and harvest.
Pantry Plants Garden 2016
Since its inception in summer 2006, the Park District of Highland Park has generously loaned the garden space in Woodridge Park in west Highland Park, and Anton's Fruit Ranch has supplied young vegetables of our choosing for planting. We are very grateful, and so are our client beneficiaries, who are also invited to help with the chores.
Get "down and dirty" with the Township this year! Make it a family or organization's community project: help work the garden at Woodridge Park. Contact the Township Office by email or phone 847-432-3240 to schedule a time.
Volunteers Needed! Ample rewards included! Fresh Air, Sunshine, Good Company, Good Deeds! Join us every Wednesday and Saturday morning all summer long at Woodridge Park 150 Barberry Road, Highland Park. Get Directions. On Wednesdays 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and Saturdays 9:00 am to Noon.
And, if your personal garden provides more than you can consume, why not donate fresh-picked produce to our Food Pantry? We're open weekdays M-F 8:30am to 4:30pm.

BEST POSTAL FOOD DRIVE EVER!!!!! "This was a tremendous effort on the part of our Highland Park Letter Carriers, organized by Joe Cholewa. Letter Carriers stayed after unloading their trucks to help carry and sort food, and their effort was far above and beyond the call of duty and deeply appreciated," commented Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.

"We have never had a food drive like this," noted Township Trustee Amy Zisook. "Every square inch of our office and pantry is filled with food. We are amazed!" Click to read more.
