Moraine Township

January 22, 2020, 7:00 PM

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., and upon roll call the following members were present: Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi, Trustees Pablo Alvarez, Dwayne Douglas, Cindy Wolfson and Amy Zisook.
Also present: Clerk Gail Feiger Brown and videographer Andrew Henderson.

Public Comment
There was no public comment.

Approval of Minutes
Trustee Zisook moved, seconded by Trustee Douglas, Approval of the Minutes of the January 9, 2020 Regular Board Meeting. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.

Approval of Bills
Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Wolfson, Approval of the bills for the period January 10-22, 2020 in the following amounts: $5,871.52 General Assistance Fund, $32,964.44 Town Fund. Voting Aye by Roll Call Vote: Supervisor Bassi, Trustees Alvarez, Douglas, Wolfson and Zisook; voting Nay: none.


  • Assessor's Report
  • Gail Feiger Brown for Mark Lindsay Commercial hearings will begin on January 27, 2020.

  • Supervisor's Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • The office holiday luncheon was lovely. A holiday luncheon for Assessor staff will be held after hearings on appeals are concluded.
    • Supervisor Bassi attended an intergovernmental meeting at Highland Park City Hall on January 15 and distributed approved meeting minutes to Trustees.
    • Supervisor Bassi interviewed two Highland Park High School Computer Club students to be the website co-managers.
    • Mental Health First Aid training will be conducted at the Township office on January 24 and January 31. Supervisor Bassi, Clerk Brown, Staff Linda Contreras, Lupe Somerville, Sanela Abazovic and Rosa Machabanski will attend along with representatives from other townships and local agencies. The training is offered through a grant received by the Lake County Health Department.
    • The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will be offered February 8-April 11. Thanks to co-coordinators Donna Novickas, Ron Altman, Supervisor Bassi and the 13-14 volunteer preparers who will assist residents with preparation of their returns.

  • Food Pantry Report Anne Flanigan Bassi
    • Over 110 bags of food were donated at the food drive held as part of the Martine Luther King, Jr. Day of Service event held on January 20 at the Highland Park Recreation Center. Thanks to volunteers Sunny Cohen, Margie Rissman, Sam Shepherd and other volunteer drivers. Thanks also to Americorps volunteers.
    • Thanks to Jon Levey and the Highland Park Bank and Trust for their annual December food drive..
    • Thanks to Trustee Zisook for representing the Township at Christ Church’s community fair on Sunday January 19.

  • Lake County Coordinated Transportation Services Committee (LCCTSC)

    Trustee Zisook attended the LCCTSC meeting held on January 15.

  • Human Relations Advisory Group Report (HRAG)

  • Cemetery Report Cindy Wolfson
    • As per earlier discussions, the designated trees were removed from Mooney Cemetery; the stumps will be ground down once the weather permits.

With no further business to conduct, Trustee Douglas moved, seconded by Trustee Alvarez that the meeting be adjourned at 7:40 p.m. The motion passed unanimously by voice vote.
