Upon the recommendation of their Citizen Grant Advisory Committee, at their April 29, 2010 meeting, the Moraine Township Board of Trustees voted to award grants totalling $135,000 to area nonprofit agencies. Last year, the Township allocated $120,000 in grants.

According to Grant Advisory Chair Harry Crane, the Township "received applications from 21 agencies, including six from agencies who not previously applied. The Committee recommended funding support for 19 of those agencies, involving 22 different programs. Requested funds totalled $174,950. Six agencies funded in the past failed to apply this year by the proposal deadline of February 1."

Funding support was voted for services to Moraine Township residents provided by the following agencies: A Safe Place, Affordable Housing Corporation of Lake County, Career Resource Center, Center for Enriched Living, College Bound Opportunities, Family Network, Family Service, Glenkirk, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports, Highland Park Community Nursery School & Day Care Center, Highland Park/Highwood Home Child Care Association, JCYS Grand Slam Tennis Camp, Lambs Farm, Links, Nicasa, Southeast Lake County Faith in Action Volunteers, The Art Center of Highland Park, Tri-Con Child Care Center, and Zacharias Sexual Abuse Center.

"We are once again extremely grateful to the volunteers who carefully study each of the applications and guide our Board to appropriate funding support," said Supervisor Mari Barnes.

"The allocation was $15,000 more than last year's to respond to the economic crises facing local nonprofit agencies," she added.

Members of the Grant Advisory Committee this year, in addition to Mr. Crane (Highland Park), were Judy Datz, Wendi Ezgur and Beth Olderman (all Highland Park) and Matt Ferrari from Highwood. Board liaisons were Trustees Bryna Gamson (Highland Park) and Jackie Schechter (Highwood).

Details on the grant process and amounts allocated this year may be found on the Township's website at
