Township Covers What LIHEAP Cannot This Summer

Moraine Township Supervisor Mari Barnes has determined that the Township will cover utility expenses for resident seniors who would normally be receiving financial aid via the State from LIHEAP funds. LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) has not been funded this summer.

"The Township's General Assistance Fund will be used to cover up to $150 for electric bills incurred for necessary air conditioning to keep our residents healthy and safe this summer," said Supervisor Barnes.

"We work to ensure the health and safety of our residents on every front," according to Moraine's General Assistance Manager Paula Peddle. "With LIHEAP being out of money this summer, it was important for us to step up and cover utility bills for seniors in the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program."
