Phyllis Santullano Holiday Gift Drive

Sponsors are sought for Moraine Township's annual event to provide gifts for children whose families are struggling during the holiday season. The Township partners with the community and schools on this effort and was able to provide gifts for over 400 children last year.

"The age, gender, size and a wish list from the anonymous child is provided to sponsors, who commit to spending $40-$50 on new toys and clothing for each child. Gifts are then distributed by the Township to the children and their families," said Event Co-Chair Sue Kach. "Families also receive grocery gift cards to shop for the foods that make their family's holiday celebration special."

"We are reminded daily of how fortunate we are to live in a community with a spirit of generosity and compassion that is second to none," noted Township Clerk Gail Feiger Brown, who co-chairs the effort.

The Holiday Drive is named after Phyllis Santullano, a Highland Park City Council member during the '70s and '80s referred to by many as "the conscience of our community." She founded an organization known as The North Suburban Self-Help Center, whose mission was to help families from all cultures in our community who were struggling. As a strong advocate for the interests of the least fortunate, Phyllis was a voice for the voiceless in our community. More amazing, she did it all mostly from a reclining position, having been struck with polio as a young woman. I was fortunate enough to be Co-President of the Highland Park / Highwood League of Woman Voters with Phyllis, and the privilege of working with her left an indelible mark on my life and my heart. Moraine Township's Holiday Gift Drive in small part helps to keep Phyllis' spirit of compassion and generosity alive in our community.

Sponsor forms are be available at, at the Township office, 777 Central Avenue, or request via email, or call the Clerk at 847-432-3240.
