Moraine Township Food Pantry Beneficiary of T.J.Maxx Store Opening

T.J.Maxx celebrated its new store opening at 49 Skokie Boulevard in Northbrook with the presentation of a $5,000 check to the Moraine Township Food Pantry.

"We are grateful to T.J.Maxx for this very timely contribution to our Food Pantry. This generous gift will enable us continue to serve the higher numbers of residents who have been accessing our Pantry," said Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.

As evidence of growing food insecurity in our Highland Park / Highwood community, the Township cited the 27.5% of elementary school students who qualify for the federal free or reduced lunch program, and more than doubling of Township Food Pantry usage in the last year.

"As residents struggle to manage fixed expenses on declining income, the Township has added produce, eggs, cheese and other perishable food to help our Food Pantry clients stretch their food budget," noted Township Trustee Cindy Wolfson. "We are fortunate to have good corporate citizens like T.J.Maxx helping to make a difference in the lives of residents who are going through difficult times."
