Moraine Township Thanks Whole Foods Market Deerfield for Feed 4 More Contribution

Through its Feed 4 More program, Whole Foods Market Deerfield presented a check for $8,768 to Moraine Township to support its Food Pantry.

The funds were raised at Whole Foods Market Deerfield during November and December 2014 from caring customers who volunteered to add Food Pantry contributions to their bill when checking out. Contributions were directed toward Moraine and West Deerfield Townships' Food Pantries.

Highlighting the overwhelming generosity of its customers, Whole Foods Market Deerfield's Marketing Director, Cheri Buell, noted that "a significant percentage of our shoppers joined in the effort to help make the holiday special for local families going through difficult times."

With 25% of Highland Park/Highwood elementary school students qualifying for the federal free or reduced lunch program, and many senior residents struggling to cover increasing expenses on fixed incomes, use of Moraine Township's Food Pantry has been increasing. In calendar year 2014, Moraine Township accommodated 4,600 resident visits to the Food Pantry.

"The Feed 4 More event exceeded all of our expectations and will provide our Pantry with the resources necessary to continue to address food insecurity in our community," said Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi. "Whole Foods also partners with our Pantry through weekly donations of fresh produce and bakery goods, helping our clients provide nutritious meals to their families on limited budgets."

Township Clerk Gail Feiger Brown commented on the importance of this contribution to the Pantry's ability to help residents. "In the last year our Pantry has added produce, eggs and cheese, in addition to shelf-stable food and frozen meat previously offered. Whole Foods Market Deerfield's contribution is crucial to our effort to continue to add perishable food to help our Food Pantry clients stretch their food dollars."

"We are very fortunate to have this ongoing support," commented Township Trustee Amy Zisook. "Whole Foods Market Deerfield lives the ideal of giving back to the community and demonstrates compassion and concern for our residents."

Moraine Township's Food Pantry is open to all income-qualified Moraine Township residents Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and other times by appointment. Residents are invited to visit the Food Pantry at 777 Central Avenue twice per month to receive fresh produce, cheese, eggs, frozen meat and shelf-stable food.
