Moraine Township Offers Certified Application Counselors to Assist Residents

Residents who are not yet enrolled for health insurance may be eligible for a 2015 Special Enrollment Period through April 30, 2015. People who qualify include those who did not have health insurance coverage for all or part of 2014 and who owe a fee on their 2014 tax return for lack of coverage for one or more months.

Although open enrollment officially ended in February, some residents may get another chance to both get health insurance and avoid a possible penalty on their 2015 income tax return.

Moraine Township has Certified Application Counselors available at no charge to work one-on-one with residents. Counselors help them understand and compare coverage and costs of the various health insurance plans and ensure that eligible enrollees receive any available financial assistance they may be qualified for.

Appointments are available daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., plus weekend and evening hours. Call 847-432-3240 to schedule an appointment.

After April 30, only residents with a "qualifying life event" are eligible to enroll for health insurance on the federal Marketplace and receive subsidies. Some examples of qualifying life events include: job loss, expiration of COBRA benefits, end of a policy plan year, aging out of a parent's health insurance coverage, loss of Medicaid/CHIP eligibility, marriage, divorce, new child, moving outside existing insurer's coverage area, becoming a citizen or a change in eligible immigration status, to name a few. Moraine Township Certified Application Counselors are available to help residents who have a qualifying life event analyze their options for health insurance coverage in the Marketplace.
