Moraine Township Food Pantry Invites Public to Think Outside of the Box when Gift Giving

Moraine Township, set to open its new client choice food pantry in early 2018, has announced a unique giving opportunity for those who'd like to help make the new space complete and find the perfect gift for the person who has everything!

The pantry has established a "wish list" of necessary but unusual items needed to equip its new client-choice Pantry. "We're hoping the community will think outside of the box when gift giving this holiday season and give these items in someone's honor to help our Township's struggling families for years to come," said Township Supervisor Anne Flanigan Bassi.

The list of equipment needed is truly a compilation of gifts that will keep on giving. Whether it's a 3-bay sink, a food pantry shelf, or a sorting table, a waiting room chair or a basket, the list offers something at all price points. For the person on your list who has everything, this is a chance to donate in their name and benefit our residents.

"With 27% of our Highland Park / Highwood elementary students from low-income families and 6,000 resident-visits to our pantry in the last 12 months, food insecurity is a reality in our community," noted Township Trustee Amy Zisook. "The items on our wish list are necessary to equip our new Pantry serve our client population."

To take part in this great opportunity to help our struggling neighbors, those interested should visit to view the complete wish list.

Moraine Township's Food Pantry is a 501c3 organization supported by donations from the community, and is open to all income-qualified Moraine Township residents. Clients are invited to visit the Pantry at 777 Central Avenue, Highland Park, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and other times by appointment. Pantry visitors receive shelf-stable food, fresh produce, and eggs, cheese or meat.
